Erika Lynne Zavada and Jude Gerard Koval, together with their families, are happy to announce their engagement.


The bride-to-be is the daughter of Ray and Corinne Zavada, Forty Fort. She is the granddaughter of Marie Schwiger and the late William Schwiger, Forty Fort, and Norma Zavada and the late Leonard Zavada, Wyoming.


The prospective groom is the son of Thomas J. and Maria D. Koval, Swoyersville.


Erika graduated from Bishop O’Reilly High School in 2002 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Dickinson College, cum laude. She will be graduating in 2014 from Johns Hopkins University with a Master of Arts degree in communications. Erika is a technology staffing director at HireStrategy in Washington, D.C. She resides in Arlington, Va.


Jude graduated from Wyoming Valley West High School in 2000 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Wilkes University, summa cum laude. Jude, a CPA, is the deputy chief financial officer for Ginnie Mae in Washington, D.C. He resides in Vienna, Va.


Erika and Jude met in 2012 during a holiday party at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., despite growing up less than a half mile away in Forty Fort and Swoyersville.


The couple will exchange vows in July 2014 at St. Monica’s Catholic Church, with a reception to follow at the Westmoreland Club.
