Comets sweep Buckhorns in the pool

The Abington Heights boys swim team defeated Wallenpaupack, 118-50, in a Wyoming Valley Conference Northern Division meet Jan. 22.


The Comets 200 medley relay team of Walker Kay, Charlie Gromelski, Sam Vale and Andrew Barren finished in first place and the team of Trevor Sablan, D.J. Weiland, and Evan Finstermaker finished third. Max Voyce finished second and Sam Vale third in the 200 free. D.J. Weiland finished second and Kevin Albright third in the 200 individual medley. Luke Fazio finished first and Sam Jubon third in the 50 free. Colin Florey finished first in the diving competition. Fazio finished first and Ben Vale third in the 100 fly. Voyce finished first and Sam Vale second in the 100 free. Sam Jubon finished first and Sablan third in the 500 free. The team of Sam Vale, Kay, Voyce, and Fazio finished first in the 200 free relay and the team of Barren, Dan Stevens, Matt Remus, and Ben Vale second. Kay finished second and Tom Clifton third in the 100 back. Gromelski finished first and Finstermaker second in the 100 breast. The team of Fazio, Weiland, Voyce, and Sam Vale finished first in the 400 free relay and the team of Jubon, Stevens, Barren, and Sablan finished second.


The Comets have a 4-1-1 league record.


The Abington Heights girls swim team defeated Wallenpaupack, 125-53.


The Lady Comets 200 medley relay team of Annie Gromelski, Eliza Burdick-Risser, Leah Byman, and Morgan Muller finished first and the team of Catherine Simakaski, Danielle Sanok, Aliza Selznick, and Caila Pitts finished third. Chloe Sweeney finished second in the 200 free and Simakaski third. Burdick-Risser finished first and Abby McLane third in the 200 individual medley. Muller finished first, Selznick second, and McLane third in the 50 free. Gromelski finished first, Sydney Dana second, and Natalie Kozar third in the diving competition. Byman finished second in the 100 fly. Pitts finished first in the 100 free. Sweeney finished first, Muller second, and Byman third in the 500 free. The team of Krista Brickel, Byman, Sweeney, and Selznick finished first in the 200 free relay and the team of Gromelski, Sanok, Pitts, and McLane finished third. Brickel finshed first, Simakaski second, and Kelsey Jackson third in the 100 back. Burdick-Risser finished first and Sanok third in the 100 breast. The team of Brickel, Muller, Burdick-Risser, and Sweeney finished first in the 400 free relay and the team of Jess Cerra, McLane, Siobhan Cahill, and Simakaski finished second.


The Lady Comets are 5-1 in league play.
