Craft retailer A.C. Moore to close remaining stores

A.C. Moore will close its remaining retail stores, including one in Dickson City, according to a news release Monday.

Anthony Piperno, chief executive officer of A.C. Moore said the release, “For over 30 years, our stores have been servicing the creative community with a vast selection of art and craft materials, with one common focus, the customer. Unfortunately, given the headwinds facing many retailers in today’s environment, it made it very difficult for us to operate and compete on a National level. During this process, we will continue to provide great customer experience, while still delivering quality and value on your favorite products. Plans for closing specific A.C. Moore locations will be shared in the upcoming weeks on our website. While we will stop accepting further online orders as of today, we will ship any previously placed orders in the ordinary course.”

A.C. Moore is known as a specialty retailer with an array of arts, crafts and floral merchandise, and its first store opened in Moorestown, New Jersey, in 1985. Forty stores are currently open, including a location in Dickson City on Commerce Boulevard. Some of the locations, the released stated, will become part of A.C. Moore’s competitor Michaels, with some reopening under the Michaels name in 2020. It is unknown if the Dickson City location will become Michaels, as there is a Michaels location 1 mile away on Commerce Boulevard.
