Scranton man killed in fatal wrong-way accident on 309 Saturday

PRINGLE — The county coroner’s office released the name of a man killed in a fatal accident in Pringle on Saturday evening.

James McNulty, 69, of Scranton, passed away as a result of his injuries sustained in an accident just a short distance from the Kingston/Forty Fort exit on Route 309 in Pringle, according to a representative from the Luzerne County Coroner’s Office.

The vehicle McNulty was riding was traveling the wrong way on Route 309.

According to a press release from Pennsylvania State Police sent out over the weekend, the vehicle McNulty was a passenger in was traveling northbound on the expressway in the southbound lane of travel just after 9:30 p.m.

The vehicle struck another car head on, before traveling across the travel lanes and striking a third car.

McNulty passed away as a result of his injuries sustained in the accident shortly after at a local hospital.

Information regarding the driver of the vehicle McNulty was in has not been released. Further information from the Pennsylvania State Police is likely forthcoming.
