SOUTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP - The Lackawanna County District Attorney's Office announced Thursday, April 5, that criminal charges have been filed against an assistant baseball coach in the Abington Heights School District.
According to the District Attorney's office, officials were contacted regarding suspicious contact between Gavin Joseph Cerco II, 25, of Laconia Circle, Clarks Summit, and a 12-year-old Abington Heights Middle School student.
The investigation began following the student's disclosure to school officials. As a result of a joint investigation between the District Attorney's Office Special Victims Unit and the South Abington Township Police, Cerco was arrested and charged with corruption of minors.
Allegations against Cerco include inappropriate contact via Facebook and instant messaging.
First Assistant District Attorney Gene Talerico said Cerco is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday, April 5. No court records regarding his bail or preliminary hearing were immediately available.
