Ross Danzig scored a career-high 28 points Saturday afternoon to lead the way as the University of Scranton locked up first place in the Landmark Conference men's basketball regular season and home court throughout the upcoming playoffs with an 81-77 victory over host Moravian University.
The Royals finished 11-3 in the conference and improved to 18-7 overall.
Luke Hawk added 18 points and Tommy Morgan had 13.
Danzig, a freshman from Abington Heights, also had nine rebounds and three steals.
The Royals rallied from a six-point deficit at halftime. Moravian still led, 74-69, with 4:26 left.
Danzig converted an offensive rebound into a 78-76 lead with 1:12 left.
Scranton will be home against Moravian (7-7, 12-13) Wednesday in the conference semifinals. The other semifinal will involve Juniata and Susquehanna. The final is Feb. 25.
The Colonial States Athletic Conference semifinals are set.
Keystone will host fifth-seeded Neumann University Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Neumann defeated Rosemont, 73-59, in Saturday's quarterfinals. Sixth-seeded Immaculata downed Gwynedd-Mercy, 94-80, to earn a shot at top-seeded and nationally ranked Cabrini.
The final will be played Friday.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The University of Scranton broke away from a tie game in the final 6:28 to land a home playoff game with a 72-59 victory over Moravian.
Scranton will host Catholic Wednesday.
Freshman guard Lindsay Fluehr scored 13 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had seven assists while coming off the bench. Erin Boggan had 11 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots. Alison Sweeney had 11 points and Tayler Pallotta, a junior from Dunmore, had 10 points and seven rebounds.
Moravian used a 21-4, second-half run to take a 51-46 lead with 9:42 left.
Once Scranton moved ahead, Fluehr hit four free throws in the final 33 seconds to secure the win.
Moravian will be at top-seeded Juniata in Wednesday's semifinals.
BASEBALL
Rob Rogers struck out eight while allowing just two hits in five innings as Keystone posted its first win of the season, 7-1, over Hampden-Sydney College at the Ty Cobb Classic.
The Giants, who dropped their opener Friday, had today's game postponed because of weather.
Brian Del Rosso and Miguel Castano each had three hits for the Giants. Castano drove in two runs and scored two runs.
Zach Duffy struck out four in two scoreless innings of relief.
TRACK AND FIELD
Jared Conklin had two of the six Keystone school-record performances at the Susquehanna University Indoors.
Conklin set school records while finishing third in the shot put and weight throw.
The men's and women's 4 x 200 relay teams set records, along with the men's 4 x 400 team and Jessica Fusco.
Sean Welsh, Brian Slater, Kareem Mickens and Carl St. Hill finished the 4 x 200 in 1:34.31 while placing second.
The all-freshman team of Savianna Jocelyn, Takera Smalley, Brittany Rosas and Aneisha Williams finished fifth in 1:52.74.
Matt Fabri, Abdul Hamid, Maurice Evans and Mickens formced the 4 x 400 team.
Fusco cleared 9-0 1/4 in the pole vault.
WRESTLING
The University of Scranton took two tough losses on Senior Day.
After beating Muhlenberg College, 36-16, Scranton (3-14) lost to New York university, 41-6, and Johns Hopkins, 45-0.
