Old Forge and Northwest have better overall records but defending champion Forest City is the top seed for the District 2 Class A girls' basketball tournament, a five-team event that opens Saturday.
Forest City is just 11-10, but has the best league winning percentage in the field after going 11-3 in Division 3 of the Lackawanna League.
There is just one quarterfinal game Saturday. Fifth-seeded Freeland MMI plays fourth-seeded Blue Ridge in a meeting of 3-19 teams Saturday at Scranton High School at 1 p.m.
The winner plays Forest City in the Feb. 29 semifinals.
Third-seeded Northwest (14-8) and second-seeded Old Forge (15-6) play in the other semifinal.
The Susquehanna girls were eligible for the tournament, but were the only team in the district, boys or girls, to decline participation in the postseason. The Lady Sabers were 2-20.
The two finalists advance into state tournament play.
