Goodbye Yankees, hello RailRiders.
After months of waiting, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's Triple-A baseball franchise has its new name.
The team unveiled its new nickname -- the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders -- along with a logo and uniforms on Wednesday at Genetti Manor in Dickson City.
RailRiders was the winning name, beating out five other options: Black Diamond Bears, Blast, Fireflies, Porcupines and Trolley Frogs.
The local franchise, long known as the Red Barons while serving as the top affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, was rechristened the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees for the 2007 season to match the new parent club, the New York Yankees.
New York remains the affiliation, but the marketing overhaul will coincide with major renovations made to PNC Field in Moosic. The team played exclusively on the road this past season while construction was underway.
