Pittston Area boys improve to 2-0

YATESVILLE -- Mason Gross scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds Wednesday night to lead Pittston Area to a 54-47 non-league boys basketball victory over visiting West Scranton.

Tyler McGarry added 13 timely points to help Pittston Area improve to 2-0.

McGarry connected twice and Gross once when the Patriots opened the second quarter by hitting three straight 3-pointers. McGarry then scored again to complete the 4-for-4 start and put the Patriots ahead, 23-20.

West Scranton, which had a 15-10 lead late in the first quarter, never led by more than two points the rest of the way.

McGarry's 3-pointer with 1:01 left in the third quarter gave Pittston Area the lead for good, 37-36. He hit two free throws with 40.2 seconds left for the game's biggst lead, 52-43.

Lou DiBileo had nine of his 17 points in the first quarter to lead the Invaders (1-2). Jordan mcCloe added 12 points.
