Trail’s Helbing all-tourney; Schneider places

The Lackawanna Trail boys basketball team finished last in the Taylor Lions Tournament with a pair of losses Friday and Sunday, but Richard Helbing made the all-tournament team.

Helbing scored 28 points and Josh Rzucidlo added 19 Sunday night, but it was not enough when the Lions lost to Stroudsburg, 76-64, in the consolation game.

Riverside 60, Lackawanna Trail 36

Host Riverside defeated Lackawanna Trail in Friday’s opening round of the Taylor Lions Tournament.

Danville 56, Abington Heights 49

Danville hit nine 3-pointers Saturday while beating Abington Heights in the non-league game.

K.J. Riley led the Ironmen with 14 points and Jagger Dressler made three of the 3-pointers.

Abington Heights rallied from a 34-28 halftime deficit to get within 42-41 going into the fourth quarter.

Corey Perkins and Kyle Nealon each made three 3-pointers while scoring 14 points for the Comets. Harry Johnson chipped in with 10 points.

Abington Heights 60, Pocono Mountain West 25

Corey Perkins made four 3-pointers and scored 20 points in the Dec. 23 romp at Pocono Mountain West.

Kyle Nealon added 11 points with the help of three 3-pointers.

The Comets ran out to a 20-2 lead after one quarter.

WRESTLING

MyHouse Trojan Wars

Lackawanna Trail’s Robbie Schneider finished sixth at 126 pounds for the only Lions place finish at the tournament, which drew a field of 49 teams from four states to Chambersburg Friday and Saturday.

Green Pond Notre Dame won the title with 210 ½ points. Host Chambersburg was second, nine points back.

Lackawanna Trail finished 29th with 74 points.

Schneider went 5-2 on the mats in the tournament, winning four straight consolation bouts, beginning with a pair of pins, to reach the consolation semifinals. After losing in that round, Scheider forfeited the first-place match.

Deegan Rose, at 113, and Braxton Lewis, at 120, were the last Lions eliminated short of the medal rounds. They each made it to the sixth round of consolations, along with Schneider, before losing.

Max Bluhm and Michael Bluhm had made it to the fifth round of consolations at 106 and 132.

No Lion advanced past the quarterfinals of the winners’ bracket.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Nanticoke 61, Lackawanna Trail 22

Nanticoke rolled in the third-place game of the Taylor Lions Tournament Saturday in Taylor.

West Scranton 53, Lackawanna Trail 14

West Scranton dominated the opening game of the Taylor Lions Tournament Thursday.
